A Montage of the Absurd: The Work of Gilbert Garcin
Gilbert Garcin (June 21, 1929 – April 17, 2020) was a French photographer. Garcin was not born into photography nor did he ever think of pursuing a career as such but later on in life he fell in love with the art of photomontage. His work evokes the elements of Dada and Surrealism, often putting himself and his wife against a background of absurdity, a kind of Kafka-esque landscape.
He has brought a sense of minimalist to the work which in turns triggers emotional responses to the viewer, an extremely wonderful technique that Garcin achieved within his work. In 2020, Garcin passed away, leaving behind a catalogue of work that will invoke and inspire generations of photography lovers and artists for years to come.
